Dr Anita Trnavčević Conference Chair 5 Conference Aims Eight billion people have inhabited the Earth since November 2022. Earth’s population is confronted with global warming, the war in Ukraine is at the fore-front of Europe, and poverty marks many parts of the world. It is a task and duty of the academic community to discuss the future developments at micro and macro levels. Scenarios for the future of humanity are not fixed and un-avoidable. There are many ways to work towards a future that is green, digital, and inclusive. This ‘trinity’ of key concepts for humanity is not sufficient but obviously a required condition for future life. MIC 2023 conference aims at shedding light on a green, digital, and inclusive society. We cordially welcome you, the researchers, professionals, and educators, to share with the MIC community your ideas, research, and scenarios from different perspectives: management, economics, organizational studies, finances and accountancy, education, or any other perspective that might contribute to fruitful, challenging, and interesting discussion. 6 Programme Boards Conference Chair Dr 1_B Workshop Facilitator Dr Bojan Nastav, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development The workshop will present participants with the process of developing methodological guidelines for the measurement of a particular topic, in this case study the profit shifting by multinational enterprise groups (MNEs). This starts with providing a conceptual framework for the measurement of the topic, address-ing relevant definitional aspects that dictate further methodological work: not merely methodology to be applied, but also (and above all) data sources. Participants will explore the methodological considerations in proposing a methodology for statistical measurement of the phenomenon, but also partake in the practical exercise of collecting publicly available data, pair these with made-up case study data to apply certain elements of the method to compile preliminary statistics, and evaluate methodological relevance of the data sources, methods and results. Dr Bojan Nastav is an acting Chief of Statistical Analysis at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). His work evolves around methodological guidance for measuring tax and commercial illicit financial flows. In the past, he has worked as a researcher at the University of Primorska (Slovenia), focusing on statistical and economic analysis of the phenomenon of the shadow economy. He then worked as a statistician at UN Statistics Division and UNCTAD, and more recently as a director general of the National Statistical Office of Slovenia. 11 Workshop on Qualitative Methodology: Getting Started with Text Analysis Wednesday, 7 June 2023 • 14.15–15.45 • Room 1_B Workshop Facilitator Dr Annamaria Tuan, University of Bologna, Italy Researchers, marketers and consumers swim in a sea of language, and more and more of that language is recorded in the form of text. Text is indeed produced by organizations through reports, ads, social media posts and website copy as well as by consumers through word of mouth, complaints, and sta-tus updates. Despite the unstructured nature of this kind of data, texts can be coded and analyzed in order to test the relationship between or among the constructs or variables of interest, creating vast opportunities for researchers. This workshop will introduce the basic skills of text analysis. We will begin by reviewing the theoretical perspectives important for studying the text. We will then cover automated text analysis techniques, primarily dictionary-based analysis, by showing the steps needed to answer a range of management questions by means of real examples. The workshop will conclude with a Q&A session. Dr Annamaria Tuan is a Senior Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Department of Management of the University of Bologna. Her research interests focus on the intersection between corporate social responsibility communication and social media marketing with a focus on text analysis. She has published in various marketing and management journals including the Journal of Management Studies, the Journal of Interactive Marketing, Psychology and Marketing, and the Journal of Business Ethics. 12 The ‘1X3’ Research Hackathon Project Wednesday, 7 June 2023 • 16.00–18.00 • Room 1_B Workshop Facilitator Dr Guido Bortoluzzi, University of Trieste, Italy During the research hackathon, PhD students will be divided in 3 groups and will be challenged to produce 1 proposal for 1 empirical research to be carried out by combining 1 topic out of the 3 conference topics (green; inclusive; digital growth) and 1 theory out of 3 mainstream theories proposed by the evaluation committee. Students will work together and will have 30 minutes to produce 1 presentation composed by 3 slides that they will pitch in 3 minutes. 13 Keynote Speech: Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education – A Critical Studies Approach Thursday, 8 June 2023 • 12.00–13.30 • Sala Conferenze (1_A) Keynote Speaker Dr Wayne Holmes, UCL Knowledge Lab at University College London, UK Artificial Intelligence (AI) is frequently hailed as a ‘solution’ to many of education’s core problems – problems such as student underachievement, assess-ment at scale, and better preparing learners for 21st century career paths. However, such claims tend to be aspirational rather than evidence-based, and overly simplistic, forgetting issues such as agency, pedagogy, surveillance, human rights, and ethics. In fact, current applications of AI in Higher Education tend to be solutions- rather than problems-oriented, and all too often under-mine student agency and disempower educators; while the teaching of AI al-most always focuses on the technological dimension of AI to the exclusion of the human dimension (its ethical, human, and social implications). Accord-ingly, this presentation will explore the application and teaching of AI in Higher Education from a critical studies and human rights perspective. It will identify and address many of the key myths, it will explore the elephant in the room (ChatGPT and similar tools), it will argue for a new trajectory, and it will pose more questions about AI and the futures of learning than it answers. Dr Wayne Holmes is an Associate Professor in the UCL Knowledge Lab at University College London. His research takes a critical studies perspective to the teaching and application of Artificial Intelligence in educational con-texts (AI&ED), and their ethical, human, and social implications. Wayne is leading the Council of Europe’s project Artificial Intelligence and Education: A Critical View through the Lens of Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law. He is also Consultant for the Technology and AI in Education unit at UNESCO, for which he co-wrote AI and Education: Guidance for Policy-makers; and he is Senior Researcher in AI&ED for IRCAI (the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence under the auspices of UNESCO). Wayne has also co-written Artificial Intelligence in Education. Promise and Implications for Teaching and Learning (Holmes et al. 2019), Citizens Interacting with AI Systems (for the EU JRC, Vuorikari and Holmes 2022), State of the Art and Practice in AI in Education (Holmes and Tuomi 2022), and The Ethics of AI in Education: Practices, Challenges and Debates (Holmes and Porayska-Pomsta 2022). Wayne has given invited keynote talks to audiences around the world. 14 Legal and Management Challenges for Open Innovation in the Digital Society Friday, 9 June 2023 • 11:30–13:00 • Room 1_B Facilitator Dr Elizabeta Zirnstein, University of Primorska, Slovenia The MIC Conference in Trieste, Italy, hostes a special session organised in collaboration with the ‘3Os and IP Awareness Raising for Collaborative Ecosystems’ (ZOOOM) EU-funded Project. The project aims to analyze intellectual property (IP) generation and management in collaborative innovation ecosystems which rely on various types of open knowledge: open software, open hardware, and open data (the ‘3Os’). The Project is managed by the Hub In-novazione Trentino (HIT), Italy, and the University of Primorska, via the Faculty of Management, is participating as a project partner. More information about the ZOOOM Project is available at https://zooom4u.eu/. The aim of this special session is to raise awareness on key issues related to emerging technologies and open innovation, emphasizing on both the 3Os’ challenges and benefits, namely: • Intellectual property aspects related to open software, open hardware and open data • Legal and business aspects of using free/open source licenses in innovative projects • EU regulatory framework and digital ecosystems • Valorisation challenges for business models embedding open-source software, open hardware, and open data The special session is intended for researchers and practitioners interested in knowing more about open licensing strategies. The presenters, together with attendees, will discuss the legal and management challenges for open innovation. Some additional aspects, besides those which will be presented and will emerge from the discussion, will contribute to the findings and further development of the ZOOOM Project. The session is organised in collaboration with the ZOOOM Project. 15 Meet the Editors Panel Friday, 9 June 2023 • 14.30–16.00 • Sala Conferenze (1_A) Panel Chair Dr Štefan Bojnec, University of Primorska, Slovenia The following journals are going to be presented: • E-mentor, Dr Małgorzata Marchewka, Editor-in-Chief • Micro & Macro Marketing, Dr Donata Vianelli, Member of the Editorial Board • Managing Global Transitions, Dr Suzana Laporšek, Associate Editor 16 Pre-Conference Session I Wednesday, 7 June • 9.45–11.15 • Room 2_A Session Chair: Ana Grdovi´ c Gnip The Rise of Zombie Firms During Covid-19 Period?
