Ta nedelja nas uvaja v življenje kristjana sredi vsakdanjega delovanja, kjer živi nekoliko drugače kot drugi in nas napolnjuje z velikim zaupanjem v moč Vstalega nad zlom. Ko so prvi kristjani globoko doživeli Vstalega in njegov nauk, ni bilo težko enako čutiti. DIVINE MERCY Pope John Paul II made the surprise announcement of this change in his homily at the canonization of Sr. Faustina on April 30, 2000. There, he declared: "It is important then that we accept the whole message that comes to us from the word of God on this Second Sunday of Easter, which from now on throughout the Church, will be called 'Divine Mercy Sunday.' " "From that Heart, Sr. Faustina Kowalska, the blessed whom from now on we will call a saint, will see two rays of light shining from that Heart and illuminating the world: 'The two rays,' Jesus Himself explained to her one day, 'represent blood and water' (Diary, 299). "Blood and water! We immediately think of the testimony given by the Evangelist John, who, when a soldier on Calvary pierced Christ's side with his spear, sees blood and water flowing from it (cf. Jn 19:34). Moreover, if the blood recalls the sacrifice of the Cross and the gift of the Eucharist, the water, in Johannine symbolism, represents not only Baptism but also the gift of the Holy Spirit (cf. Jn 3:5; 4:14; 7:37-39). "Divine Mercy reaches human beings through the Heart of Christ crucified: 'Tell, My daughter, [all people] that I am Love and Mercy itself [personified]' Jesus will ask of Sr. Faustina (Diary, 1074). Christ pours out this mercy on humanity through the sending of the Spirit who, in the Trinity, is the Person^Love. And is not mercy love's 'second name' (cf. Rich in Mercy, n.7), understood in its deepest and most tender aspect, in its ability to take upon itself the burden of any need and, especially, in its most immense capacity for forgiveness?" From this teaching of the Holy Father on that most solemn occasion of his "presenting the life and witness of Sr. Faustina Kowalska. to the whole Church as a gift of God to our time," it can be deduced that the most opportune time, the most proper one, for the solemn honoring of The Divine Mercy falls immediately after the Paschal Feast of Easter, recalling the attaining of our Redemption. St. Augustine called the eight days of Easter (which the Church liturgically considers as constituting a single day - the day of the new creation) "days of mercy and pardon." He calls the Sunday of this Paschal Octave (which our Lord insisted with St. Faustina is the Feast of Mercy [Diary, 88]) "the summary of the days of mercy" (Sermon 156, Dom. In Albis). It is no wonder, then, that already during his pilgrimage to Blessed Faustina's tomb on June 7, 1997, Pope John Paul 11 declared: "I give thanks to Divine Providence that I have been enabled to contribute personally to the fulfillment of Christ's will through the institution of the Feast of Divine Mercy." FISH FRY was a great success and the Slovenian School teachers would like to thank all the parents and students who worked at the event and those who helped with the set up on Thursday night. We would like to specifically thank Debbie & Al Žagar-and the Žagar family who helped by providing the fryers every year and frying the fish and fries. We would also like to thank all the parishioners, who came and enjoyed some fish and chips, supporting and helping the Slovenian School fundraiser. Thank you everyone and we look forward to holding this event again next year! Z blagoslovi smo nadaljevali nato v župnijski cerkvi sv. Gregorija Velikega v Hamiltonu in sicer ob 3:00, 4:00 in 5:00h popoldne. On March 25, 2015 our mother Joža Šušteršič celebrated her 90th birthday. With family and friends to help us celebrate, it was wonderful to see so much love and so many memories all in one room. Thank you to everyone for your good wishes! To mom/grandma... We wish you many more happy years, and we thank God for all the blessings he has given and shown you throughout your lifetime. Congratulations on this milestone birthday! From your whole family who love you dearly! 2ND Sunday of Easter v_/ Response: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever. First Reading Acts 4:32-35 The first believers in the resurrection were an inspired and enthusiastic community, dedicated to serving one another and sharing their property. Second Reading 1 John 5:1-6 Belief in Jesus and love for one another are inseparable. Gospel John 20:19-31 Jesus appears to the disciples, and all, including Thomas, become firm believers in the risen Christ. 'The whole group of believers was united, heart and soul." Illustration During Easter Week every year, more than a thousand disabled and disadvantaged children from the UK and Ireland are brought to Lourdes with HCPT - The Pilgrimage Trust. They travel to the south of France in small groups, supported by volunteer helpers, many of them young people who have paid for themselves and raised money for the children's costs. The groups are a lively presence around Lourdes, each being dressed in distinctive and colourful group sweatshirts and hats, and even luminous headgear in the torchlight procession that they lead. In every group, as in Lourdes itself, priority is given to the needs of the disabled children and to ensuring they get the most out of the pilgrimage. Celebrating Mass together daily, singing and playing music, sharing meals, lighting group candles, praying at the Lourdes Grotto and playing in the prairie opposite the Grotto are all part of an experience of loving and caring Christian community. It's exhausting, but participants love it and are drawn back year after year. "It brings out the best in all of us," reflected one of the bishops who joined last year's annual pilgrimage. Bishop Kieran Conry of Arundel and Brighton, President of the Pilgrimage Trust and main celebrant at the 2013 Trust Mass involving more than two hundred groups, said, "It's one of the best things we do as Church." Over recent decades groups from as far afield as Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, the United States and the West Indies have joined the HCPT pilgrimage. This week in Lourdes, the HCPT liturgies were organised by the West Indies contingent who were celebrating thirty years with the Trust. Their theme was "Rejoice!", bringing out the joy that Christians experience in Easter Week, particularly when they celebrate together and focus on those who are vulnerable among them. Gospel Teaching In today's first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we hear that the first-century followers of Jesus reorganised their lives under the influence of his Spirit, offering one another love and support as they faced their problems together. They made solidarity and mutual support a reality. We hear that no one in the early Christian communities was poor, because all those who owned land or houses sold them and presented the money to the apostles, who distributed it equally among those who needed help. They shared food gladly and generously. And they were respected for testifying to the resurrection of Jesus. The apostles tangibly changed people's lives, as Jesus had done. The presence of God's resurrection grace was expressed when the community provided for the needy people among them with their own resources. This gathering was not one of people with a well-developed doctrine, a complex hierarchical infrastructure, a newly printed hymnal, a dynamic well-trained choir, a magnificent "house of God", or a rota of readers. They felt summoned to be channels for God's power, pragmatically changing lives. The Lord's resurrection convinced them to act with loving concern for each other. Application How far is it true that an encounter with the risen Lord is more than a private experience? It is often an experience in fellowship with the community of believers. Christian communities with the Spirit of Jesus and "united, heart and soul" can help build a new society, marked by fairness, concern for those who are vulnerable, and justice and peace. Wherever there is mutual love, support and solidarity, there we will find something of God, of Jesus Christ and of the kingdom of heaven. Through our outreach as a community to disabled people, and those who are elderly and vulnerable, we meet the risen Christ and feel the power of God's spirit among us. These encounters not only give us new life and hope, they change our lives. Some of us are inspired to take up the social justice teaching of the Church in a more serious way. There are plenty of examples of Christians engaging with the open wounds in society through work with homeless people, in soup kitchens and shelters, with those who are sick and dying in hospitals, among migrants and prisoners, in war zones and refugee camps. We can learn from the first Christians, who can inspire us to take up the social justice agenda of our Church. Glimpses of genuine community, generosity and human compassion are radical, powerful and joyful. They transform our lives.
