Tito in Kidrič, Kardelj in Pijade, Djilas in Bakarič so neštetokrat povedali, da hočejo iti do konca in izpeljati čisti komunizem. Drugod so cerkve same odprte, toda ljudem branijo ranje. Otroke in drugo mladino ob nedeljah v času službe božje gonijo na izlete in na udarniško delo. Stotisoči katoliških vojakov so nadalje brez vsake službe božje. Drugod spet so cerkve odprte. Job jle torej nevaren in političen. Dva dominikanca v zagrebški škofiji sta bila vržena v ječo, ker sta razlagala star krščanski nauk o dveh zastavah: o Kristusovi in satanovi. Danes zatre to ustanovo, dugi dan drugo. Vedeli so, kaj pride, če ti zmagajo. Shades of D------- lev! Tf , iuv, in every The fun (and Barnum and Bailey! There were plenty of bystanders and the usual cdowd of advice-offerers who didn't know beans about tents. One of them asked when the elephants were arriving. The Don Bosco boys got there first, early in the morning. They were closely followed by the Holy Name Society boys and the Councilmen. Everyone was eager to get to work. By dint of much hard labor, a tent was set up near the basketball court. Imagine the chagrin of the putter-uppers when they discovered it was insideout. Oh well, everybody makes mistakes, and it was too much waste of time to take it down, so they just prayed it wouldn’t rain, and started on number two. This was the refreshment tent, just outside the Parish House yard. It, to everyone’s relief, was right side out. Then came the “circus” between the school and the portable. This problem was solved without difficulty and there remained only the pint-size3 ticket tent and the “roof’ that “stuck out” from the portable. These taken care of, (it was late afternoon by then) the boys disbanded and the kiddies of the neighborhood promptly took over. The had a good time playing circus. Sunday morning, the Mass-goers stared! There, right on our school field was a magic city which had risen out from the earth during the night. At least, that’s what a poet would say. But the “magicians” with their aching muscles and memories of poles falling and electric light wires being too short (they strung up the lights, too) weren’t feeling very poetic. Still, when at one o’clock the workers arrived, we saw many of the fellows who had helped on Saturday, which shows what a fine parish spirit they have. The Sodality, the P.T.A., and the Altar Society were also on hand to serve up the delicious roast beef sandwiches, wieners, candy, ice cream and pop. The “hard stuff” was taken care of by the men. By 1:30 most of the stands were ready and the smell of warm food drafted lazily over the grounds as the orchestra of Ray Cording began over the P.A. system Maes- er, “the Voice” Frank Sinattij? voice drifted over the grounds and mingled with the smell of roast beef. MARY’S CUB SCOUTS PACK 25 * The Cubs and their families had a grand time at their picnic last Sunday. It was held at Roadside Metropolitan Park off Highland Road. Man could not do nearly as well. The greatest annual fluctuations are 2.5 feet Wind and barometric disturbances cause extensive changes in water stages for short periods. Westerly winds cause a lowering in the vicinity of Sandusky and a raising at Buffalo. Extreme fluctuations range between 9 feet above and 6.5 feet below water datum. I have seen docks awash for short periods in Buffalo Harbor at 9 feet above low water datum. The slow change of water levels between high stages and low stages which may take several years, increases the rate of erosion of both onshore and offshore areas over that which would occur with the rapid tidal changes of oceans. The ocean storm waves act on a particular area for oaly a comparatively short period. During a falling water level, erosion of the off shore area is increased. The deepening of the offshore area, caused by this increased erosion, also accentuates the erosion of the inshore area by allowing the approach of larger waves. During a rising water level, beaches, or uplands, which are above the action of low-water waves are reached by waves during all storms. It is evident this slow shifting of the zone of maximum agitation back and forth across the shore must be taken into effect in the design of protective structures, since structures de- celebrate their 13th wedding anniver- - “r „ wa,er level may be ia_1\ We all ha4» .well time. Toledo is i!n the floor was soon crowded and the music was piped outside for those who just wanted to listen. All afternoon, everything was selling like hot cakes and the cooks and bottle-suppliers were kept busy. As evening drew on, the crowd grew larger and, if that were possible, gayer. At eight o’clock Ray Cording took over and Pete Sokac and his orchestra went for a well-deserved rest. Also at eight o’clock, as it was dark, the lights were turned on in the tents. In all the tents, that is, except the refreshment tent near the Parish House. The people there were in the 1 dark, both literally and about why there was no light. About five of our willing workers examined the wire, which led to the Parish House basement and thence to the fuse box. After some consultation, it was discovered that the wire was “juiceless.” Someone went home to get an extension and the Parish House back porch supplied the outlet. There was enough power for only one light as the one who tried it with two discovered. After a few minutes, the fuse gave up the ghost, and the tent was plunged into darkness. In the interval, candles were the only source of light available. Finally a higher powered fuse was located and the lone light bulb burned for the rest of the evening. At nine o’clock, the EVENT of the evening arrived. Without further ado —presenting the Winnah! Steve Ma-lovasic of 1266 East 173 St. Congratulations!!! The qar will be delivered as soon as possible. That ended the day> excitement. Immediately after the drawing, the crowd began to disperse, Some of the dancers stayed on as long as Ray Cording was willing to keep on playing. However, at about ten o’clock the lad who changed the records decided to go home and Father Cimperman agreed, so the dance floor was officially closed. It was, howeveT, almost 11:15 before the last straggler headed for the arms of Morpheus. Monday morning, the rains came and the tent putter-uppers and taker-downers were relieved that it had held off. You see, the tent which had been set up inside out had the ventilating hole uncovered in its inside-out condition. Anyone standing under the hole in Monday morning’s downpour would have been forced to swim or drown. The rain having stopped, the tent city disappeared, leaving the schoolyard empty. The Church council wishes to thank the people of the Parish for turning out in such force. It was, after all, your picnic, not ours. We also wish to thank everyone who helped put up tents, serve food and drink, sell tickets, prepare the stubs for the raffle, and also the Slovenian Home for the tents and tables. Thanks to the emergency electricians, the people who donated bar aprons, wire, and so forth, and most of all, thanks to the people for enjoying themselves! We hope this is only the beginning of a lot of fun and Detroit Engineer District but is one of the great ports of the Grtfat Lakes. In fact, Toledo is the greatest coal port water. It is also interesting to note that mean lake levels used in design of lake structures must consider only the open water period since, in general, the months December to March, inclusive, cover a period during which ice formations usually prevent the erosion and transporting action of waves and currents. However, ice thrusts must be taken into consideration in the design. (To be continued.)
