SLOVENIAN PRINTINGS IN REFUGEE CAMPS IN ITALY AND AUSTRIA 1945-1949
From May 1945 to 1949, an unbelievable number of printed publications appeared in the post-war refugee camps in Austria and Italy. One would expect that apathy and resignation due to uncertain conditions in exile would prevail among Slovenes caught in the camp life - they lost their homeland and, in many cases, relatives. However, it was far from being so. We are stunned by the outbreak of an exceptional vitality and creativity, which were also reflected in publishing original literature, school textbooks, newspapers, reprints of Slovenian classics, historical studies, memories, the first Slovenian historical atlas was created in the camp etc. The total number of prints includes almost five hundred monographic editions and more than eighty titles of periodicals. A part of the precious legacy can be browsed on the dLib.si portal.
