1920 Carinthian plebiscite

The Carinthian plebiscite held on October 10 1920 determined the border between the then Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia) and Austria. Due to its result, a large part of Slovenians remained on the North side of the Karavanke mountain - in Austria. Prior to the plebiscite, both sides carried out intensive political propaganda and much of propaganda material was preserved. The 2010 anniversary year was an opportunity to revive memories of the plebiscite, its propaganda, promises and consequences. It was the reason that the Dr. Franc Sušnik Central Carinthian Library decided to digitize the material bearing witness to the pre-plebiscite period. The National and University Library of Slovenia also contributed some of the material since the Library keeps many posters and flyers from this historical period.
