Abstract The article 2 presents the findings about the Franciscan monastery library collection which was acquired during the first half of the 18 th century by p. Žiga Škerpin (1689- 1755) and gives an overview of the circumstances of this collection’s origins. The intro- duction presents some previous publications and starting points regarding the Ljublja- na Franciscan monastery library and the collection as well as the basic hypothesis. It is followed by an overview of the monastery library history from its beginnings to 18 th century, including p. Škerpin’s biography and a short state-of-the-art overview. An overview of the methodological approaches to collection research is presented next, followed by the analysis, namely the general qualitative and quantitative findings about the collection and the main bookbinding and edges decoration characteristics. Dolar v prispevku : Knjižnica frančiškanskega samostana v Ljublja- ni (2000, str. 44–48) , N. Golob v prispevku : Kadelne iniciale v dveh volumnih frančiškanskega graduala (2002, str. 152–183) ter skupaj s F. Lacknerjem v : Katalog Mittelaletricher Handschriften der Wiener Franziskanerprovinz (2006) . Podatki o inkunabulah v ljubljanski frančiškanski knjižnici so vključeni v Gspan- Badaličev katalog Inkunabule v Sloveniji (1957) , podatki o srednjeveških rokopisih pa v Kos-Steletov popis: Srednjeveški rokopisi v Sloveniji (1931). Pregledno poglavje o vsebini in ureditvi vsebuje tudi magistrsko delo S. Bahorja Razvoj in pomen starej- ših samostanskih knjižnic in njihov položaj v sodobnem knjižničnem informacijskem sistemu v Sloveniji (2003). Oris zgodovine province, samostana, knjižnice ter nekaterih ključnih osebnosti v zgodovini ljubljanskega frančiškanskega samostana in knjižnice so podali: J. Škofljanec v prispevku: Red manjših bratov (O. F. M. ) in provinca sv. Križa (2000, str. 9–93) , J.
